God’s Role

Yanno, I keep reading that the purpose of religions is to provide an avenue for people to ask their god(s) for things and to thank them.

That’s not how we see it in Numenism.

We don’t ask Dea Nutrix to do things for us, nor do we necessarily ask any gods to help us out. We’re here to do their will. Most of them time, this means just going about our lives as best we can. We are the power of the patterns.

Sometimes a nexus is reached and specific action is needed. That’s when we get smacked with a divine mandate to do something, and we have to figure out what it is and do it. We’re always free to decline, because there will be other pivot points where changes can be made, and there will be other people to do it. The job is easier if we just do what Dea Nutrix or a god needs if we do it early on, before matters reach some critical mass. Our descendants might be able to do it, but they’ll have a much harder time of it.

That doesn’t happen often, being asked by Dea Nutrix or a god to do something specific.

We don’t have to do anything for, with, to, or about Dea Nutrix. It is, whatever we do or don’t do.

The gods, being closer to corporeal, a mid-point between Dea Nutrix and individualted corporeality, are a slightly different matter. You don’t want to get caught up in their plans. Best to simply offer them thanks for letting you go about your life and thanks for doing whatever it is they do.

The numena are a bit different. While they are equivalent to gods in scope and power and connection to Dea Nutrix, they are far more personalized and involved in your life. You do things for them, they do things for you, like friends would. Except.

Except they have a striaght line to Dea Nutrix, and if you’re going to be god-smacked, it will probably come through your numen.

Just so you know.
