I have successfully completed my certification as a paranormal investigator.
My first case report submitted for the certification was one involving a cryptid – a rumorof freshwater octopus in Lake Hefner. I performed the investigation according to the instructions in the manual and submitted it.
Apparently, even though cryptozoology is considered a part of the paranormal, things like the chupacabra and Bigfoot and the Ozark Yeller, it wasn’t considered a part of paranormal investigations for the purpose of certification.
So I investigated the rumor of the Beggar’s Bridge Ghost, the one that falls off and dies on the rocks below, and now,as a ghost, tries to lure lone women to do the same.
My investigation involved the appropriate equipment, the required half hour vigil, and the follow-up analysis of collected data to use in writing up the report.
And it was that simple to get the certification.
In fact, I feel it was too easy. I got it in 4 days – 2 weekends. This is a course that should have taken at least 6 weeks to complete.
I wonder if the advanced certification will be as easy? I wonder if I will even go for it?
Most of it was learning to use and interpret equipment. The basic equipment is inexpensive, but you can also spend thousands on equipment alone if you select high end or specialized equipment. I don’t intend to spend that much because honestly, the less expensive tools work just as well, and I trust people over equipment.
Yes, I know octopi are saltwater creatures. But there have been rumors of a fresh water octopi for decades. Maybe there really is one. Unfortunately, most investigations prove to be glass jellyfish or someone dumped leftovers that washed up on the banks of the lake.
In this case, because of the unseasonable warm weather, it was actually glass jellyfish.
