Nuts

We had a small, brief, cold snap; just enough to let the pecans start falling.

My own pecan tree is still not producing nuts because it tried to die on me. When I bought it (a Mohawk pecan), it stood taller than me. That winter, it died almost to the root, but recovered that spring. It has struggled with growth since, and is now just about hip high.

But, where I work has several pecan trees and we’re allowed to collect and keep the pecans. This picture is just a small portion of the pecans I gathered as I walked in to work. At lunch time, I will take my bag and go out back to the bigger trees and gather up a bunch of pecans.

When I’m not writing on my NaNo, I can shell pecans, bag them up, and freeze what I won’t be using right away.

If you’re allergic to tree nuts, please ignore the following: Nut bread, pecan pies, pecan tassies, pecan brittle, pecan divinity, butter pecan syrup, pecan shortbread, cinnamon roasted pecans, pecan baklava, pecan cheesecake, and sweet pecans fresh out of their shell.
