Candy Code

Long ago, at a Con far, far away, the GhuGhuists developed the Candy Code.

It was a thing of geekly joy. Not only did they have to eat the candy in order to have a wrapper to use, they could pass messages in a secret code that wasn’t obvious to very many people.

Candy wrappers were used as commentary and as votes.

Imagine telling a joke and having a pile of Snickers wrappers appear about you. How nice to have the confirmation that your joke was funny. Or to say something profound, and be inundated with Mr. Goodbar wrappers. A money-making proposition would garner Payday wrappers. Almond Joy was for things that made the geeks happy. And Mounds were used almost exclusively as a courting wrapper, given in adulation to the PSD* or to the female object of one’s adoration.

One would find a candy wrapper shoved under their door or dropped near them telling of a secret metting, or commending them for some successful prank. Or one might receive it in the mail – a token of notice. Nowadays, an email of a picture of hte candywrapper suffices, so even extinct candies can continue to leave obscure messages.

Mind, it has to be the candy wrapper or a picture of the candywrapper – no cheating by scrawling the name of the candy somewhere. PArt of hte code is hte effort it takes, the sacrifice, of getting precisly the right candy wrapper and leaving it. At a Con, this can sometimes be a true challenge.

I leave it to your geekly imagination how Nutrageous warppers, Zero bars, Skittles, Black Jacks, Look!, After Dark, Atomic Fireballs, Astropops, After Eight, Boost, 3 Musketeers, Maestro, Milk Duds, Oh! Henry, Slo-Pokes, Abba-Zabas, Bones, Mars, Nerds, Galaxy, Forever Yours, Time Out, Relax, Old Faithful, Cloud Nine, Butterfinger, Sugar Daddy/Mama/Babies, Screaming Yellow Zonkers, Skor, Freshen Up, Now and LAters, Good ‘n Plenty, Lifesavers, Rocky Road, Chuckles, Wunderbars, Mr. Big, Smarties, Laffy Taffy, Take 5, Pal-o-Mine, White Knights, Milky Way, Liaison, Non-Pareil, Cry Babies, Mars, and more were used.
