The summer solstice is mid summer, my American friends, not the first day of summer.
The first day of summer is May 1st, when we drink copious amounts of Maiwein made with woodruff-infused eiswein and strawberries and sing songs about calling summer in and pretend to be roosters crowing in the rising of the summer season and dance and hang May baskets full of flowers and cookies on people’s doors.
Other pagans may celebrate it differently, but no matter how you slice and dice it, the summer solstice is the middle of summer.
