It’s Spring

Filed under: Uncategorized — ebonypearl @ 2:25 am

Spring is definitely here.

Yesterday, I mowed the grass because it was already almost hip high, and I really couldn’t put it off any longer.

In the front yard, all the little wild plants are blooming – the shy violets, the bolder dandelions, the proud clovers. The plantains have their broad leaves flexing in the sun. The chrysanthemums and lavenders, the foxglove and henbit, the fairy nightshade, and the sages have new leaves unfurling. The redbud went overnight from tight black incipient buds to a wash of deep red buds that will lighten in the coming week as it blooms. The blueberry plants have hard tiny berries replacing the white flowers, and the raspberries and strawberries have buds. The roses have new stems sprouting. The wild jessamine is covered in golden blooms, and the wisteria is about to pop out all purple and fragrant.

In just a few short weeks, you’ll be able to smell the heady fragrance of my yard for blocks. The honeysuckle is coming to life, and the monardas are sending up shoots.

Even if we get another cold snap or two, it’s spring.
