This evening, we went to check out a (new for us) coffee shop where we could hold NaNo Meet-ups. It was going to be a quick scope of facilities, a purchase of a glass of tea and maybe a cupcake or sandwich.

It turned into a giant reunion instead, with pizza and tea.

It seemed like everyone we knew from several segments of our lives all intersect here at this coffee shop. What was going to be a fifteen minute stop turned into a four hour table-hopping conversation between so many different people. We talked NaNo, and religion, and politics, and SoonerCon, and WorldCon, and writing in general, and more politics, and general catch-up with people we haven’t seen in months.

Most of these people didn’t know one another, but had seen one another for as long as this coffee shop has been open (which is less than a year). Now, through us, they know one another.

There’s a drum circle in the area that I attend off and on, and a curio shop where I buy gifts, and an art gallery where some of my work has been on display off and on – and now, something like 15 people who never knew one another before now do, and they have things in common and they don’t have to sit alone at their tables unless they choose.

So, now there are two coffee shops to hang out at that offer lots of friends and decent beverages.

And the pizza? They will custom make a single huge slice of pizza for you and bake it – for $3.00. It’s ultra thin crispy crust, and the toppings are generous.

It’s always good to find a new place to hang out at.
